Properly maintaining pavement can add years to its life. Concrete expansion joint sealing, in which the concrete joint is cleaned and injected with a flexible sealant that allows the slabs to move, is vital to concrete maintenance.
Expansion joint repair must be done properly. If expansion joint sealing is not done correctly water, jet fuel, and glycol can seep through the cuts and damage the sub-base. The sub-base can become muddy and unable to properly support the concrete slab, resulting in more cracks and even breaks.

Expansion Joints Re-Sealing
Sealant life expectancy is typically 4 to 5 years. Once sealant fails water starts to seep into the concrete joint and will destroy the concrete/asphalt. Maintenance will avoid costly replacement. Doweling/ Drilling/Pinning Slabs
Essential for airport runways and taxiways as well as for road and highway construction, doweling, rock drilling and pinning slabs are three terms for anchoring concrete slabs together to ensure the slabs don’t move. First, a slot is cut across the joint to strengthen the slab. The panels are pinned together by inserting dowels along construction joints, and then epoxy is injected.
